When should you hire a boat in Viareggio?

Even if some seasons come with milder temperatures, Viareggio has good weather all year round. The high season happens during the summer in the months of July and August, this is when the temperatures reach their peaks and so does the tourist population in the region.

Do you need a licence to rent a boat in Viareggio?

Same as for the prices, licence requirements may vary depending on the type of boat that you want to rent. For most small sailboats, you don’t need a licence to operate if you don’t intend on sailing further than 6 miles off the shelter you departed from.

For motorboats you don’t need a certificate either if the engine doesn’t go above 40HP. Otherwise, authorities will require you to have a boating licence.

Anyways, you will need to have a nautical CV with you to show your previous experiences. You can also pass the ICC (International Competence Certificate) which is a boating certificate that allows you to hire a boat in most European Union countries.

What to do in Viareggio?

There are plenty of things you can do in Viareggio. Rent a boat and sail to the Lugiran coast, visit Cinque Terre where you can explore the authentic villages by going from one of the five colourful towns to the other one.
