Corals represent an exceptional biodiversity that we must preserve. Scientists estimate that coral reefs are home to more than 25% of marine species. Despite this, there are serious threats to these complex environments. This is why SamBoat has chosen to actively participate in the preservation of these fragile but essential ecosystems.

Why are corals important to our oceans?

  • An essential habitat for marine life
  • A natural barrier to preserve the coastline
  • An essential resource for tourism, fisheries and food security
  • Significant medical prospects thanks to coral
Yet 90% of coral reefs are at risk of disappearing by 2050.
Samboat approached the charity Coral Guardian which aims to protect coral ecosystems by involving local populations. Coral Guardian acts in Indonesia and Spain to:
  • Protect and restore corals and coral ecosystems
  • Clean up plastic waste in safeguarded areas
  • Raise awareness and involve local populations
