Lots of great places to visit.. but very busy even at end of September either leave early in the morning and probably don't sail.. and get a spot. Alternatively leave later, enjoy the afternoon breeze but you have to get creative with the parking

We loved the southern Cyclades - we spent four out of our five nights very happily at anchor and our one night in port (Katapola on Amorgos) was great too. Particular restaurant highlights were Omega 3 on Sifnos (stunning food and location), and Youlaki on Amorgos. Our favourite anchorage, which we returned to for a second night, was on Livardi Bay on Schinoussa - the steep walk up to the village is well worth it for a lovely drink with gorgeous view of the bay at sunset, and three good food shops (we didn't eat in any restaurants there). Would definitely recommend this sailing area, but not for first-timers as it can be pretty windy and rough. We love fishing and were lucky enough to catch our first ever Mediterranean fish - a Bullet Tuna which was absolutely delicious!

We last used Sunsail in 2005 and they were average but wow have they stepped it up. First class service from start to finish, excellent well trained and dedicated staff and the boat was one of the best presented and highest spec yachts I've chartered in over 25 years. We will be back!

We had a wonderful experience. The sailing area is gorgeous, we stayed overnight in some lovely bays and visited beautiful little towns and ancient architecture. The boat was great, spacious (Oceanis 51.1), and although a couple of things broke during the week Dream Yacht Charter were very responsive.

This was our fourth charter from Athens and our first with Harris and we would definately recommend him - our best experience so far. He was fantastic. He delivered an excellent onboarding/briefing once we arrived on Candy, and the boat was as described and correctly equiped with everything that we could have wanted. We did have a technical problem in Poros midway through our charter, however within 1.5 hrs of contacting Harris we had an electrician onboard who fixed the problem and we were ready to go. Harris was always available and quick to react to our messages. Thanks Harris for a great holiday!

Great experience, an older boat but in pretty good condition for its age. Friendly family team checking us in and out and very helpful, gave us some good recommendations for places to visit.

We had a really great time with Giannis on the sailboat Christina. Giannis (John) is a true gentleman and accom4plished sailor, he took very good care of us during our 3 day trip and showed us some amazing places, we also had the pleasure of his cooking as we opted for half board. We had plenty of sailing but also time to stop for a snorkel and to enjoy a delicious meal. He is well able to sail the boat single handed but is also very patient and will explain things and let you play a part. He has many years of sailing experience and knows both the boat and waters around Crete VERY well. Our safety and comfort were always priority for him and I recommend him entirely. Giannis is great company, he will tell you all about life on Crete (he is also an olive farmer and if you are lucky you will get to sample his olive oil and fresh produce) but he will also take himself off with his book and give you some family time. Thankyou Giannis for a truly wonderful and unforgetable experience!

We had a fantastic time on Martha (Bénéteau Oceanis 331) who is showing her age gracefully. Everything worked perfectly except for the dinghy outboard but Mikhail replaced it with a brand new one and didn't charge us for it's use! Mikhail went above and beyond to ensure that our cruise was a fantastic experience. The boat was very easy to sail but still performed well. I would strongly recommend Mihail and his boat and the Ionian sea for anyone looking for a great cruise! Thanks again Mihail!

We had an amazing week sailing with Kyknos in Volos. The boat was in excellent condition, clean, well maintained, and fully equipped for a comfortable trip. Vasilis was very professional, kind, and helpful, making the whole rental process smooth and stress-free. The combination of a reliable boat, perfect weather, fair price, and the warm hospitality of wonderful people made this experience truly unforgettable. It was a dream week of sailing, and we highly recommend SamBoat, Vasilis and Kyknos to anyone planning to explore the Sporades!

Das Fahrgebiet hat meinen Vorstellungen entsprochen. Nette kleine Häfen, sehr schöne Buchten zum Baden und Ankern.

The small town of Vonitsa in the Ambracian Gulf is really worth seeing and is particularly suitable for a stay on the day of return because Preveza is not far away. If there is a lot of wind, it will probably be rough outside the breakwater but not dangerous. We also liked the Ormus Vlychon bay on Lefkas (Meganisi is great anyway).

Charter a sailboat in Greece with or without captain

Greece has always been a top destination to vacation on a sailboat. With several destinations to choose from, you'll have access to a wide inventory to hire a sailboat. Charter for a day or a week in comfort with flexible cancellation.

Charter a sailboat in Greece

Nestled in the heart of the southern Balkans is Greece, a globally acclaimed destination renowned for its authentic and paradisiacal landscapes, turquoise waters, and an abundance of sailing routes. Regarded as a sailor's paradise, Greece boasts numerous islands to explore, vibrant coastal towns, world-renowned archaeological sites, and an overall breathtaking scenery. Renting a sailboat in Greece offers an ideal opportunity to navigate through the wild landscapes of this Mediterranean gem.

How much does it cost to rent a sailboat in Greece?

The cost of renting a sailboat in Greece is contingent upon various factors, including the time of travel and the size of the boat. The positive aspect is the extensive inventory available due to the popularity of Greek ports, offering approximately 1,700 sailboats. On average, daily rates hover around €350, with weekly charters averaging closer to €3,000. For those seeking a stress-free vacation or lacking sailing experience, the option to rent a captain along with the boat is available at an additional cost. Moreover, catamaran charters are also a popular choice for a more luxurious sailing experience in Greece.

Do you need a license to rent a sailboat in Greece?

To hire a sailboat in Greece, a valid license along with a nautical CV is required. The nautical CV should outline your previous sailing experience and the waters you have navigated. It is advisable to have experience with a similar boat to the one you intend to rent. For individuals without a valid license or sufficient experience, the alternative is to charter a sailboat with a captain. A captain not only provides valuable local knowledge but also acts as a guide, revealing hidden gems along the coast and ensuring a worry-free sailing experience.

Hiring a sailboat in Greece

Crafting a custom itinerary in Greece is a delightful challenge due to the myriad possibilities available. The choice of exploring the Cyclades or the Aeolian islands for an island-hopping adventure with your sailboat adds to the allure. The ideal sailing period, akin to much of the Mediterranean, is from May extending into late October. However, it's crucial to note that the peak season, spanning July and August, witnesses the highest influx of tourists along with elevated prices for sailboat charters.

Renting a boat in Greece is the quintessential way to spend a few days or weeks acquainting yourself with the Greek coastline and the diverse Greek islands. Sailing through the turquoise waters promises an unparalleled vacation experience.
