By Kanika from SamBoat - June 15, 2023

Miami is one of the sunniest destinations in America all year round. With endless sandy beaches and ocean, Miami is the perfect destination to try your hand at a new summer sport. Here are 5 of the best sports to try on your next sail to Miami.

Volleyball

Both beach and water volleyball are very popular in Miami, with the heat meaning you will often see groups of friends volleying a ball around well into the evening. The beaches of Miami are some of the best in the world, and a reason why you should visit Miami, and are littered with volleyball arenas which means all you need to bring is your own ball and a group of friends and you can be entertained for hours. Volleyball is a great activity while you are on the sand or in the ocean on your next charter to enjoy with friends, just remember to keep hydrated in the hot Miami sun.

Snorkelling

Another easy activity to enjoy either during a beach day in Miami or moored up off the coast during your charter, snorkelling in Miami can be loads of fun. With Miami’s crystal-clear waters, there are many great snorkelling areas to explore, such as Biscayne National Park, where you can look out for colourful marine life and sea turtles, or South Beach, where you can see some beautiful coral life. There is as just much to explore underwater in Miami as over it.

Windsurfing

If you are looking for a new and impressive sport to try, there is no better place to try your hand at windsurfing than Miami. With the consistent weather conditions, Miami is a great place for a beginner to windsurf, particularly with the conditions in the beautiful Biscayne Bay. Travel further out for some stronger winds if you are more experienced and would like to push yourself.

Paddleboarding

One of the most popular sports to try in Miami is stand-up paddle boarding, with the calm waters of many of the beaches making it a prime location to paddle board. Paddleboarding in Miami can be a unique experience, with the incredible natural beauty of the reef and ocean being surrounded by the large and impressive Miami skyline. There are a great many places to try this spot, from Key Biscayne, with its harbour and sandbar, to the artificial and unique Venetian Islands.

Diving

South Florida is home to some of the best underwater wildlife in the US, which makes Miami a world-class destination for diving and snorkelling. Miami lies close to the Florida Straits, the third-largest barrier reef in the world, which is an incredible sight to see. Other areas to dive in Miami include Mermaid Artificial Reef, just off the coast of Fort Lauderdale and home to a giant underwater gallery, Neptune Memorial Reef, located close to Key Biscayne and one of the largest man-made reefs ever created. There are also some amazing diving spots in the Florida Keys, which you can try out during your weeklong charter itinerary to the Florida Keys.

Whatever you choose to do, Miami is home to so many great sports to try, and if you choose to rent a motorboat in Miami, you can try some of the towed water sports in one of Miami’s many clear areas off the coast, such as tubing or wakeboarding which are both as exhilarating as they look.
