By Kanika from SamBoat - May 23, 2023

If you love to sail and are looking for the perfect Italian sailing holiday this summer, why not try sailing around the Bay of Naples. With this 7-day charter itinerary, you can explore all the bay and the south of Italy has to offer!

Day 1: Naples –> Procida

13NM – 2 hours and 10 minutes

Jet off from the port of Naples and head to the Marina di Corricella on the island of Procida to begin your charter by marvelling at the colourful buildings and vibrant culture. The smaller inhabited island of the Bay of Naples is full of things to do during your day on the island. While Procida isn’t famous for its beach like some of the other places on this charter, there are still some incredible places to catch a day in the sun, such as the long Spiaggia Chiaia, or the secluded Spiaggia di Punta Ottimo. Alternatively, to truly experience the culture of Procida, visit the Terra Murata, a fortified medieval village at the highest point on Procida, where you can tour around the Palazzo d’Avalos, or roam about the square.

Day 2: Procida –> Ischia

4NM – 40 minutes

On your second day at sea, jet to the second of the inhabited islands of the Bay of Naples, Ischia. The largest of the islands, it is only a short distance from Procide which lies to its east, so is an easy distance to travel, giving you more time to spend your day exploring the island. Some of the best things to do here include the activities, such as the water activities like snorkelling and diving or relaxing at the geothermal Le Fumarole Beach. For a more active day, hike up to Belvedere Elsa Morante for some stunning views of the Bay and island.

Day 3: Ischia –> Capri

17.5 NM – 3 hours

The last of the islands and the most popular, head over to Capri from Ischia for a day at this luxury island. The most famous sight of Capri is the Blue Grotto which features crystal-clear waters in the cave and breathtaking views which you can row through. The island is full of places to explore, so is sure to be an active day. Perhaps you would like to visit the Gardens of Augusto, which offers some of the most stunning views of the famous Faraglioni rocks and is only a short walk away from the centre. Or visit the iconic Via Kupp, twisting hairpin bends which is a unique narrow path which is interesting to look at from the overhanging cliffs. Day 4: Capri –> Positano

12.2 NM – 2 hours

After leaving Capri, sail to the town of Positano on the Amalfi Coast. While there are some incredible hotels in the area if you want a night off the boat, the Marina Grande is the perfect place to dock and is located right by the most popular beach in the town, the Marina Grande beach. Positano is a great place to have a beach day, with some incredible beaches at the base of the cliff-side town, and crystal clear waters with Mediterranean temperatures, making it the perfect way to spend a day. Alternatively, if you want to do a bit of exploring, visit the Santa Maria Assunta church, where you can marvel at the iconic black Madonna, which is shrouded in myths and legends.

Day 5: Positano –> Sorrento

15.7 NM – 2 hours and 30 minutes

From Positano, sail to Sorrento, a short sail away and a popular sailing destination due to its great mooring locations, including the two ports, Mergellina and Molo Beverllo. Filled with sites to tour and explore, it is no wonder sailing in Sorrento is such a popular activity, where you can visit places such as the central square of the Piazzo Tasso and watch the locals navigate their day-to-day life, or marvel at the different styles and cultures displayed in the Cathedral of Sorrento. Day 6: Sorrento –> Meta

2.6 NM – 30 minutes

A small and underrated destination on the Italian coast is Meta, a nearby village to Sorrento on the Sorrentine Peninsula. With a curved sand wall by the village marina, the coast of Meta is filled with several bars and beachside activities to enjoy, and being a very underrated destination, prices are cheaper and the village gives a more natural view of everyday Italian life. However, the big draw to staying in Meta is the location of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. Only a short bus or train ride away, Pompeii is a must-visit destination near Naples, filled with history and wonder, and the archaeological sites are a once-in-a-lifetime place to visit. The ancient Roman city is a great place to spend a day trip, as you can spend the day learning about the ancient history of the town and the eruption, hiking up Mount Vesuvius, or relaxing in one of the many nearby Italian bars and restaurants.

Day 7: Meta –> Naples

14.3 NM – 2 hours and 20 minutes

Head back on your final day to Naples, where you jetted off from, and experience the town for the day, such as visiting the Ovo Castle, or spending the day exploring the Galleria Bordonica archaeological museum. Whatever you choose to do, Naples is a great place to finish your charter, with three main ports to dock in, and many marina and beachside activities and restaurants to enjoy.
