From Argeles, you absolutely have to go down towards Spain. The coast is more beautiful and wild. Many coves where you can relax. Be careful though about mooring in Collioure, it is chargeable. Better to go towards Paullile.

A partir d'Argeles, il faut impérativement descendre vers l'Espagne. La côte est plus belle et sauvage. Beaucoup de crique ou se détendre. Attention toutefois à l'amarrage à Collioure, il est payant. Mieux vaut aller vers Paullile.

Warm and Sunny Argeles

Argeles enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate – warm and sunny most of the year. This tourist destination offers the perfect climate to enjoy the long stretch of sandy beaches, two nature reserves, creeks, and much more. The city is blessed with warm and sunny days for at least 8 to 9 months of a year.

Like other tourist destinations in France, Argeles remains a busy tourist attraction for most of the year, except for the short, cold winter months. In this area, summer starts from April, the temperature gradually increases to peak levels in July and August. The steady decrease in temperature signals the onset of autumn, from September to mid-October. During summer, the temperature hits a maximum of around 29 degree Celsius and a minimum of around 14 degree Celsius. The winter months – mid-October to March – is usually windy, cold, and wet.

Before you rent a boat in Argeles a brief introduction to La Tramontane would do a lot of good. La Tramontane, Sea Wind, or Vent Marine is a famous local wind that blows over the Argeles region. Hated in winter, La Tramontane brings a smile on the faces of the tourists in summer, especially sailing enthusiasts, because it blows away grey clouds that invade the sky occasionally.

When to visit Argeles

The Peak Season: The months of July and August are the busiest months for tourism. The flights, hotels, and boat rental are quite expensive and almost fully booked. Sailing enthusiasts wanting to rent a boat of their choice during this period must book well in advance. The same advice also applies to book flight tickets and accommodation.

The Shoulder Season: The three months from March to May are the second busiest in Argeles. The weather is warm and tourists can expect low to moderate rainfall. In addition to these three months, the other side of the peak season – September to mid-October – is also marked by less crowded streets, vacant hotels, and affordable rentals.

How to get to Argeles

Tourists can reach the city by first arriving at the Perpignan Airport that’s only 25km from your tourist destination. Alternatively, you can take a plane to Girona in Spain and from there drive 85km to reach Argeles.

The commute from Perpignan to Argeles can be by train, bus, or taxi cab. Taking the train from Perpignan Station is the cheapest way to reach the city. Unfortunately, at present, there seems to be no operational shuttle service between the Perpignan Airport and train station. Tourists will have to hire a cab from the airport to reach the train station. There are long-distance trains from other parts of France that arrive at Argeles or Perpignan.

Getting around Argeles

When you’re not on a boat exploring the beautiful Mediterranean Sea use the local train and bus service to get around Argeles. Do not forget to check the routes and timing of the local trains before buying tickets. The city has a white bus service that runs through the old town, campsites, and beach sections. Solo travelers also have the option of renting a bike to get around the city.
