The sea is our playground, our source of escape, but also a fragile ecosystem that needs protecting. Because sailing comes with a shared responsibility, SamBoat has chosen to partner with a leading organization to take meaningful action for the ocean. Together with Fondation de la Mer, we are contributing sustainably to the protection of marine biodiversity and the fight against plastic pollution.
Founded in 2015 by ocean enthusiasts, Fondation de la Mer works to accelerate the protection of our oceans. It supports local actors and carries out concrete projects to protect marine biodiversity, tackle pollution, support research, and raise public awareness.
With the support of a scientific advisory board that ensures the impact of its projects, and its observer status at the UN, Fondation de la Mer actively contributes to major decisions for the ocean, for today and tomorrow.
At SamBoat, we believe everyone can contribute in their own way. Together with Fondation de la Mer, we've created a simple and transparent system to allow our community of boaters to get involved.
When booking on SamBoat, our customers have the option to make a voluntary donation in any amount they choose.
All donations go to Fondation de la Mer. These contributions support projects for the protection of marine biodiversity, the preservation of coastal ecosystems, and the fight against plastic pollution.
Through its program Un Geste pour la Mer (A Gesture for the Sea), Fondation de la Mer concretely acts against pollution on land and at sea. Collection of waste, mobilization of fishermen in ports, underwater clean-up: donations allow the removal of hundreds of tons of waste from the ocean and limit their impact on marine fauna and flora.
In the Mediterranean, Fondation de la Mer supports a large-scale program to protect sea turtle nesting beaches. Thanks to donations, kilometers of coastline are monitored each year to locate and protect nests, raise public awareness, and support scientific research to help preserve these endangered species.
Key species in maintaining marine balance, rays and sharks are among the most threatened today. Fondation de la Mer funds scientific expeditions in the Mediterranean, Polynesia, and the Gulf of Guinea to better understand their movements, track populations, and strengthen their protection using innovative tools such as satellite tags.
Dolphins and whales are at the heart of scientific programs supported by Fondation de la Mer. Donations help fund field studies, acoustic monitoring, and research programs to better protect these species against collisions, noise pollution, and accidental captures.
True carbon sinks and vital biodiversity habitats, seagrass meadows play a crucial role for the ocean. Fondation de la Mer is particularly committed to restoring and protecting Posidonia in the Mediterranean, which is heavily threatened by human activity, as it alone supports between 20% and 25% of Mediterranean biodiversity.
