Our skipper Enrico was wonderful! Unfortunately we we had to cut our adventure short by a few hours due to sea sickness. Enrico secured a spot for us to have a wonderful afternoon at the beach club.
Everything worked fine. Easy to pick up the boat. We went for a day trip around the Capri island. They do not provide an accurate map but it is easy to navigate. We stopped at a couple of places with the anchor. There is a minifrigo box on the boat so bring ice to keep it cold. We were lucky to find a table Gradola but ended up swimming from the boat to the shore because they told us it was full. Make sure you book a table at one of the restaurants around the island.
Planning a day at sea starts with choosing the right Capri boat rental to suit your preferences. You can depart from Marina Grande, the main port with the widest selection, or Marina Piccola on the southern coast, a more secluded starting point away from tourist crowds.
Consider whether you'd like to explore both Capri and the Amalfi Coast or dedicate your time to discovering Capri alone. A half day works for seeing highlights like the Blue Grotto, but to sail around the island comfortably, full-day rentals are better. May through September offers the calmest waters and best visibility for admiring the coastline.
The perfect boat for your Capri island adventure depends on your experience and goals. Traditional wooden boat options like the gozzo or lancia provide an authentic Italian experience with classic styling – ideal for photography and relaxation.
Motorboats offer speed and efficiency, making them ideal for covering longer distances, especially if you're planning to explore the Amalfi Coast. For shorter trips, small boats and dinghies work well for basic exploration around marina areas. Each boat type delivers a unique experience – consider your priorities when selecting the best option for your journey around the island.
Boat rental options in Capri cater to all preferences. From Marina Piccola or Capri Marina, you can rent boats ranging from simple to luxurious. Many visitors choose to explore Capri's famous coastal features like the White Grotto, Green Grotto, and the iconic Blue Grotto – sea caves with stunning color effects.
When you rent a boat independently, you can set your own itinerary, stopping to swim whenever a secluded cove catches your eye. From the water, you'll see aspects of the island that land-based visitors miss entirely.
When considering a boat on Capri, you can choose with or without a captain. Having a captain allows you to relax while they navigate to the best spots around the entire island. Alternatively, renting a boat independently lets you explore at your own pace. For some, sailing without a captain adds a sense of freedom and flexibility, allowing for a more personal and spontaneous experience.
It is possible to rent a boat without a license in Capri, but it depends on the type and engine power of the boat. Small motorboats with engines under 40 horsepower can typically be rented without a boating license. These boats are ideal for calm coastal cruising and are a popular choice for travelers with limited or no boating experience.
Larger motorboats or high-speed boats generally require a valid boating license due to their power and handling requirements. Operating these boats without proper certification is not permitted under Italian maritime law.
If you don't have a license or feel unsure about navigating on your own, you can easily rent a boat with a captain. A captain will handle all navigation and safety responsibilities, allowing you to relax and enjoy the stunning views of Capri and beyond.
A private boat tour offers a curated experience of Capri's coastal wonders, combining natural beauty with the freedom to explore at your own pace. Departing from Marina Piccola or Marina Grande, these tours often include iconic sights and hidden gems. Popular stops and highlights include:
These private boat excursions combine relaxation and adventure, often becoming the highlight of any visit to Capri and the Amalfi Coast.
Book your rental on Capri well in advance, especially during peak season. Morning departures from Marina Piccola often provide calmer waters and better light. Bring sun protection, water, and snacks for comfort. When navigating, rental services recommend a minimum amount of caution around swimming areas and caves. Allow enough time – rushing around the island misses the point of this magical experience.
Discovering Capri from the water reveals the island's true beauty. Whether aboard a traditional wooden boat or a sleek modern boat, sailing Capri's azure waters offers a timeless perspective on why this Mediterranean jewel has captivated travelers for generations.
