Best time to rent a boat in Germany
In the summer months from May to September, Germany is predominantly warm. Because of the weather, this is the best time to take the boat out for a weekend or week trip. Outside of these months, you'll experience heavy rainfall and stronger winds.
How much does a yacht charter in Germany cost?
In Germany you can rent a nice houseboat for just 76€ per day. Sailing boats are available from 84€ per day and motor boats are a bit more expensive and are available from 90€ per day. The most popular boats in Germany are canal boats due to the landscape and number of lakes. Even though this is the primary boat, you will still find a wide inventory of motorboats and sailboats for rent.
Do you need a license to rent a boat in Germany?
If you want to rent a motor or sailboat legally on German waters, you do not need a certificate in most cases, which makes renting a boat and partaking in water sports much easier. A driver's license (SBF See or SBF Binnen) is only required for boats with a motor of more than 11,03 KW or 15 PS.
Exceptions are the Rhine, Lake Constance and sections of the Spree in Berlin. The Rhine can be navigated with boats up to 20 meters with the normal inland license, up to 5 HP also completely without license. The upper limit of 5 hp without a license is also valid at Lake Constance.
