We left from Marie Galante, then we went to Petite Terre… incredible! We saw lots of turtles, a leopard ray and barracudas. Then we left for Saint François and on the way we saw dolphins! Then we returned to Marie Galante. I highly recommend Petite Terre!!

Be careful when sailing at the end of the June season, on the stopovers, the majority of businesses are closed, which makes the stopovers less attractive. Otherwise, out of season, being able to enjoy Petite Terre all to ourselves was an incredible privilege. We left Pointe à Pitre, then direction St François, to admire the tip of the castles, direction Petite Terre (reservation of anchorage 48 hours before essential), then Marie Galante and the Saintes, and a return to the Gozier before returning the boat .

The boat is well equiped en we received a good explanation by François, the owner. We had a very nice time visiting Gosier Island first and later on we passed through the Riviere Salée to go Caret Island in the Grand Cul de Sac Region.

A huge thank you to our captain Eric for this unforgettable experience at sea! His professionalism, kindness and perfect knowledge of the area offered us an exceptional trip. Thanks to him, we discovered a paradise island, isolated from the world, where we were able to enjoy a magical moment in the heart of nature. The crystal clear water, the absolute calm and the beauty of the landscape made this excursion simply perfect. We couldn't have dreamed of better! Thank you again, Eric, for this timeless adventure. P.S.: If you don't want to bring your own food, let Eric take care of everything! He will prepare an extraordinary barbecue for you, worthy of the best restaurants. A culinary experience not to be missed!

Jean-Francois is a genuinely nice person and shared his love of sailing with us for the 2 weeks we spent on Samara. He is an extraordinary sailor and his skills are impressive. We went to St Barts, St Marteen, St Kitts and de Saints island. He was very patient with us and worked hard to make sure we were comfortable. Such a great experience. Thanks Jean-Francois.

1. Canoe cove (on Marie-Galante) is a little paradise. Turquoise water and white sand. A postcard! You absolutely have to see. 2. Anchorage in Les Saintes. A view and a typically Caribbean atmosphere. Another must-have. They were our two favorites.
1. L'anse canot (sur Marie-Galante) est un petit paradis. L'eau turquoise et le sable blanc. Une carte postale! Il faut absolument voir. 2. Le mouillage aux Saintes. Une vue et une ambiance typiquement antillaise. Un autre incontournable. C'était nos deux coups de coeurs.

Boat rental in Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe serves as a dream destination for sailing enthusiasts looking for Caribbean boat rental options with family or friends. This French-West-Indian archipelago is an ideal jumping-off point for exploring the Caribbean by boat. Guadeloupe delivers consistently good sailing conditions for both seasoned captains and first-timers.

The Guadeloupe archipelago has clear turquoise water, white sandy beaches, and an underwater world suitable for snorkeling. From Marina Bas du Fort to the waters around Marie Galante, this tropical location provides various sailing experiences.

Popular sailing areas in Guadeloupe

Grand Terre and Basse Terre Islands form the main islands of Guadeloupe, each providing different sailing experiences:

  1. Grande-Terre includes Saint Francois departure point, and Sainte-Rose and Le Gosier coastal towns.
  2. Basse Terre island contains the Guadeloupe National Park with tropical rainforests and hiking trails.
  3. Reserve Cousteau, named after Jacques Cousteau, offers scuba diving opportunities among coral reefs.
  4. Les Saintes archipelago represents one of the well-known sailing areas in the Caribbean. This small island chain has secluded beaches, clear waters suitable for snorkeling, and historic Fort Napoleon. The Pain de Sucre formation creates a backdrop for your sailing vacation.
  5. Petite Terre functions as a nature reserve where you can observe sea turtles and the rare Lesser Antillean iguana.

The areas provide anchorages and beaches suitable for day trips from your charter base.

Types of boats available for rent in Guadeloupe

The boat rental market in Guadeloupe provides various options to suit different sailing preferences. Sailboat rentals are popular, ranging from compact boats for couples to larger sailing yachts for groups. Catamaran rentals offer stability and space, suitable for families seeking comfort during their sailing adventure.

Motorboat options allow access to remote islands and fishing opportunities. Each boat type has different advantages compared to other boats, depending on your sailing experience and vacation goals.

Boat charter options in Guadeloupe

The bareboat charter options allow experienced sailors to explore Guadeloupe independently, providing freedom to create their own itinerary. This charter type requires proper sailing credentials and offers sailing experience for qualified sailors.

Yacht charter in Guadeloupe with captain services works for those without sailing experience or boating license requirements. Professional captains have local knowledge, ensuring safe navigation while providing information about locations throughout the islands. Captain services vary depending on boat size and charter duration.

How to rent a boat with or without a license?

To rent a boat in Guadeloupe is simple, and non-licensed visitors can always hire a captain, if needed. Licensed sailors can easily rent a boat by presenting valid sailing credentials, while those without licenses can find boats with captain services readily available.

Most charter companies operate from Marina Bas du Fort near Pointe à Pitre, providing easy access to boats and comprehensive briefings. The rental process includes safety equipment checks and local sailing conditions updates.

Cost and seasonality of boat rental in Guadeloupe

Boat rental in Guadeloupe costs vary depending on season, boat type, and charter duration. High season (December through April) commands premium prices due to optimal sailing conditions and pleasant water temperature. Low season offers more affordable rates while still providing excellent sailing opportunities.

Charter rates fluctuate based on boat size, with basic sailboat rentals starting affordably while luxury yacht charters commanding higher prices. Additional costs may include fuel, provisions, and optional equipment.

Tips for your Guadeloupe sailing vacation

Planning your Guadeloupe sailing vacation requires consideration of weather patterns and local attractions. Recommend sailing during the trade wind season for good conditions, though Guadeloupe offers year-round sailing opportunities. Pack reef-safe sunscreen for snorkeling and try local Creole food at waterfront restaurants.

Consider exploring other islands like Marie Galante and Sainte Anne for different experiences with their beautiful beaches. The Caribbean's trade winds create good boat charter conditions, while calm anchorages provide spots for swimming and relaxation. From bustling waters near Pointe a Pitre to the serene beauty of Salt River, every moment on the water offers discoveries.
