Very versatile in its approach to deck and interior layout, the Océanis 473 was one of Beneteau's stars between 2001 and 2008. This Finot-Conq design combines the level of comfort and good performance sought by private owners, with the harsh demands of the charter business. The Océanis 473, a design by Finot-Conq, was presented to the public in 2001 to replace the Océanis 461, a design by the Farr cabinet itself presented in 1996. The OC-473 was in the Béneteau catalog until 2008, when it was replaced by the Océanis 46 design by Berret/Racoupeau. Three architects of the highest reputation for three generations of Océanis in this important strip of 13-14 meters in length, where the models compete simultaneously in the demanding segment of the owner's boat and also in the tough charter market. The Finot-Conq tandem, the undisputed guarantee of Open oceanic regatta designs at the beginning of the 21st century, was responsible for the Océanis 473 project. The new model surprised with the large volume of its hull, with a high and powerful launch bow, the modern “L” bulbous keel and an imposing beam up to practically the same transom. From the first glance, this sailboat easily catches the eye. Its aesthetic is timeless, adopting an attractive double flush-deck cover from further back on the mast, rising slightly above the saloon. The significant freeboard of the OC-473 thus concealed its massive silhouette while providing a good interior ceiling height. The OC473's rig is masthead with angled spreaders and baby-stay, with a fairly balanced distribution of sails between the genoa and the main. The large surface area of the genoa at 150% was never to the taste of the charter companies, who saw how their careless customers easily deformed the sail. It is not a very subtle rig with the settings, but it is solid and easy to handle thanks to the complete and well arranged hardware supplied as standard. The maneuvering of the 473 mast is all forwarded to the cockpit, where it is taken care of by a battery of Spinlock XT clamps and a pair of Lewmar 40ST winches on the cabin. The mainsheet bar, honest in its length, is also on the cabin and the genoa winches (two Lewmar 56 or 54ST) are on the coamings, and can be handled by the tiller or by the crew from the benches. The helmsman steers with a double wheel and his seat on the wings always has the back-stay in crow's feet, disturbing the rest of the back on the aft balcony. The visibility towards the bow and the support points with the list are correct. A retractable central bench opens the way to a stern platform that, in its time, seemed unbeatable. Today, accustomed to the huge folding skirts that all sailboats have, the good size of the platform of the OC-473 is in question. Performance to match The Océanis 473 can boast of good performance in the entire wind range starting from light breezes above 5 or 6 knots. Its heeling hardness is also notable, especially in the 2.10 m version. draft. Upwind with about 25 knots of wind with a reef in the main and 2/3 genoa spread, the boat effortlessly stays on course at 7.2/7.6 knots, with the cockpit dry of spray and the crew enjoying the scenery sitting on the comfortable benches in the bathtub (bravo for the support bar for the pes). The deep bow and good launch, as well as a certain "U" shape in the bow part of the hull, guarantee a smooth passage through the wave. On tight courses, the wheel balance stays fairly neutral, as is common with Finot-Conq designs, but it's best not to tap too much so as not to lose the pull of this high-displacement hull. Opening sheets with these 20/25 knots, the speed of the OC-473 rises to a good 8.5 knots across, reaching 9.5/10 knots long. Unfolding the entire genoa with this wind by the fin, the speed remains constant in double digits and, although the helmsman has to be more attentive, the sensation of easy speed prevails in the program. The bathtub of the Océanis is comfortable both at anchor and when sailing. The corculation from bow to stern is comfortable, the seat of the cane is pleasant and the six (or even eight) crew members that the boat admits will be at ease maneuvering or sitting on the benches. The Oceanis 473 belongs to a generation of sailboats that still did not consider large outdoor tables – with a refrigerator and chest for crockery – mandatory. In the OC-473, the exterior table is made of luxurious varnished mahogany tone wood and is foldable and also easily removable (carry bag included), leaving only a stainless tubular structure in sight that serves both as a handrail and as a footrest with the list. A very practical solution.Large volume interiors Inside, the 473 offers versions for all navigation programs, with two, three or four enormous double cabins and two bathrooms. Whatever the version, the central living room is very spacious (3.55 x 3.92 m.), differing -depending on the version- by the kitchen in "L" next to the entrance or along the side of the living room. The navigator's area (which changes band depending on the kitchen version) is the same as before, with a seat facing the bow, drawers, shelves and lockers for small objects, good space to display the charts, beveled panel to embed the electronics and a practical front panel that allows you to embed small instruments as well as being used as a glove box. Assuming that chart tables are gradually losing their reason for being inside modern sailboats, this sailor's area can always be recycled as the owner's 'office', an equipment that is increasingly requested on sailboats of this length. On a construction level, the OC-473 took another step forward in Beneteau's ongoing process of turning his countercasts into virtually integral pieces from floor to ceiling. In the OC-473, the counter mold not only forms the reinforcements of the hull, but also discreetly takes care of supporting the bulkheads and a good part of the furniture, joining everything together using different types of adhesives. It is a construction system highly adapted to large series, solid and durable that Beneteau masters to perfection. The woodwork, all in an elegant dark mahogany tone, is elegant and pleasing to the eye. At Bénéteau they are masters when it comes to splashing an eminently industrial carpentry with decorative details and tasteful accessories. This ability of the shipyard makes us forget that the base of the furniture is a simple joinery and basic finishes. Award also to the profusion of portholes and opening hatches (19 in total), in addition to the fixed methacrylates at the bow of the cabin. Between the two, they guarantee good ventilation and prevent the dark tones of the wood from detracting from the joy of the rooms.

El Océanis 473, diseño de Finot-Conq, fue presentado al público en 2001 en sustitución del Océanis 461, un diseño del gabinete Farr a su vez presentado en 1996. El nuevo modelo sorprendía con el gran volumen de su carena, con una proa de alto y potente lanzamiento, la moderna quilla con bulbo en “L” y una imponente manga hasta prácticamente el mismo espejo de popa. Desde el primer vistazo, este velero entra fácilmente por los ojos. Su estética es intemporal, adoptando una atractiva cubierta en doble flush-deck desde más atrás del palo, remontando ligeramente sobre el salón. El importante francobordo del OC-473 disimulaba de esta manera su masiva silueta proporcionando al tiempo una buena altura de techo interior. El aparejo del OC473 es a tope de palo con crucetas anguladas y baby-stay, con un reparto de velas bastante equilibrado entre el génova y la mayor. La importante superficie del génova al 150% nunca fue del gusto de las empresas de chárter, que veían como sus clientes poco cuidadosos deformaban la vela con facilidad. No es un aparejo muy sutil con los reglajes, pero es sólido y sencillo de manejar gracias al completo y bien dispuesto acastillaje suministrado de serie. La maniobra del palo del 473 queda toda ella reenviada a la bañera, donde la atienden una batería de mordazas Spinlock XT y un par de winches Lewmar 40ST sobre la cabina. La barra de escota de mayor, honesta en su longitud, también está sobre la cabina y los winches del génova (dos Lewmar 56 ó 54ST) quedan sobre las brazolas, pudiendo ser manejados por el caña o por los tripulantes desde los bancos. El timonel gobierna con doble rueda y su asiento en las bandas siempre tiene el back-stay en pata de gallo molestando el reposo de la espalda en el balcón de popa. La visibilidad hacia proa y los puntos de apoyo con la escora son correctos. Una banqueta central escamoteable abre el paso a una plataforma de popa que, en sus tiempos, parecía inmejorable. Hoy en día, acostumbrados a los inmensos faldones abatibles que llevan todos los veleros, el buen tamaño de la plataforma del OC-473 queda en entredicho.Prestaciones a la altura El Océanis 473 puede presumir de buenas prestaciones en toda la franja de vientos a partir de ventolinas sobre los 5 ó 6 nudos. También es notable su dureza de escora, sobre todo en la versión de 2,10 m. de calado. Ciñendo con unos 25 nudos de viento con un rizo en la mayor y 2/3 de génova desplegado, el barco mantiene el rumbo sin esfuerzo a 7,2/7,6 nudos, con la bañera seca de rociones y la tripulación disfrutando del paisaje sentada en los cómodos bancos de la bañera (bravo por la barra de apoyo a los pes). La proa profunda y con buen lanzamiento, así como cierta forma en “U” en la parte de proa del casco, garantizan un suave paso por la ola. En los rumbos cerrados, el equilibrio de la rueda se mantiene bastante neutro, como suele ser habitual en los diseños Finot—Conq, pero es mejor no puntear demasiado para no perder la arrancada de este casco de importante desplazamiento. Abriendo escotas con estos 20/25 nudos, la velocidad del OC-473 sube a unos buenos 8,5 nudos al través, llegando a 9,5/10 nudos al largo. Desplegando todo el génova con este viento por la aleta, la velocidad se mantiene constante con dos dígitos y, aunque el timonel haya de estar más atento, la sensación de velocidad fácil se impone en el programa. La bañera del Océanis es confortable tanto en fondeo como navegando. La corculación de proa a popa es cómoda, el asiento del caña es agradable y los seis (o incluso ocho) tripulantes que admite el barco se encontrarán a sus anchas maniobrando o sentados en los bancos. El Oceanis 473 pertenece a una generación de veleros que aun no consideraban las grandes mesas exteriores –con nevera y cofre para la vajilla- obligatorias. En el OC-473, la mesa exterior está hecha con lujosa madera tono caoba barnizada y es desplegable y también fácilmente desmontable (bolsa de transporte incluida), dejando sólo a la vista una estructura tubular inoxidable que sirve tanto de pasamano como de apoyapiés con la escora. Una solución muy práctica.Interiores de gran volumen En el interior, el 473 propone versiones para todos los programas de navegación, con dos, tres o cuatro enormes camarotes dobles y dos baños. Sea cual sea la versión, el salón central es muy amplio (3,55 x 3,92 m.), diferenciándose –según la versión- por la cocina en “L” junto a la entrada o a lo largo del lateral del salón. La zona del navegante (que cambia de banda según la versión de cocina) es de las de antes, con asiento mirando a proa, cajones, estantes y taquillas para pequeños objetos, buen espacio para desplegar las cartas, panel biselado para empotrar la electrónica y un práctico panel frontal que tanto permite empotrar pequeños instrumentos como ser utilizado como guantera. Asumiendo que las mesas de cartas van perdiendo paulatinamente su razón de ser en el interior de los modernos veleros, esta zona del navegante siempre se puede reciclar como ‘despacho’ del armador, un equipamiento cada día más solicitado en veleros de esta eslora. A nivel de construcción, el OC-473 dio otro paso adelante en el permanente proceso de Beneteau para convertir sus contramoldes en piezas prácticamente integrales desde el suelo al techo. En el OC-473, el contramolde no solo conforma los refuerzos del casco, sino que también se ocupa discretamente de hacer de soporte a los mamparos y buena parte del mobiliario, conjuntándolo todo entre sí mediante distintos tipos de adhesivos. Es un sistema de construcción muy adaptado a las grandes series, solido y duradero que Beneteau domina a la perfección. La carpintería, toda ella en madera de un elegante tono caoba oscuro, es elegante y agradable a la vista. En Bénéteau son maestros a la hora de salpicar una carpintería eminentemente industrial con detalles decorativos y accesorios de buen gusto. Esta habilidad del astillero hace olvidar que la base del mobiliario es una ebanistería sencilla y de acabados básicos. Premio también a la profusión de portillos y tambuchos practicables (19 en total), además de los metacrilatos fijos a proa de la cabina. Entre ambos garantizan una buena ventilación y evitan que los tonos oscuros de la madera resten alegría a las estancias.
