The sea is our playground, our source of escape, but also a fragile ecosystem that needs to be preserved. Because sailing involves a collective responsibility, SamBoat has chosen to partner with a leading actor to take concrete action in favor of the ocean. It is alongside the Fondation de la Mer that we are contributing sustainably to the protection of marine biodiversity and the fight against plastic pollution.
Founded in 2015 by ocean enthusiasts, the Fondation de la Mer works to accelerate ocean protection. It supports local actors and carries out concrete projects to preserve marine biodiversity, combat pollution, support research, and raise public awareness.
Thanks to a scientific board ensuring the impact of projects and its observer status at the UN, the Sea Foundation actively contributes to major decisions in favor of the ocean, today and for tomorrow.
At SamBoat, we believe that everyone can contribute, each in their own way. With the Sea Foundation, we have set up a simple and transparent system to allow our community of boaters to get involved with us.
When booking on SamBoat, our customers can make a voluntary donation, of the amount of their choice
All donations collected are donated to the Foundation for the Sea. These contributions support projects for the protection of marine biodiversity, the preservation of coastal ecosystems, and the fight against plastic pollution.
Through its program A Gesture for the Sea, the Foundation for the Sea concretely acts against pollution on land and at sea. Collections of waste, mobilization of fishermen in ports, underwater clean-up: donations allow the removal of hundreds of tons of waste from the ocean and limit their impact on marine fauna and flora.
In the Mediterranean, the Sea Foundation supports a vast program for protecting the nesting beaches of sea turtles. Thanks to donations, kilometers of beaches are monitored every year to locate and protect the nests, raise public awareness, and support scientific research to preserve these critically endangered species.
Key species in marine balance, rays and sharks are among the most threatened today. The Fondation de la Mer finances scientific expeditions in the Mediterranean, in Polynesia, and in the Gulf of Guinea to better understand their movements, track populations, and enhance their protection through innovative tools such as satellite tags.
Dolphins and whales are at the heart of scientific programs supported by the Foundation for the Sea. Donations fund field studies, acoustic monitoring, and research programs to better protect these species against collisions, noise pollution, and accidental captures.
True carbon sinks and biodiversity refuges, marine seagrasses play an essential role for the ocean. The Ocean Foundation is particularly committed to restoring and protecting posidonia in the Mediterranean, highly threatened by human activity, as it alone hosts between 20% and 25% of Mediterranean biodiversity.
