We had an amazing day on Rogers boat. He took us to absolutely stunning locations. The boat was comfortable, shaded, and Rogers took great care of us. We highly recommend spending a day on his boat. Definitely a highlight of our trip.

These guys, Hans and his mate Eric were absolute gems.. highly recommend for an afternoon/evening on the water. I don’t hype anything, but these guys are worth visiting again . Responsive on pre boarding and picked us up in the perfect location. Hans, Eric, and SamBoat for the win!

We had a wonderful time! Beaulieu-sur-Mer is a fantastic place to explore the beautiful spots around Cap-Ferrat. Michel showed us some of the best places to stop and swim near Paloma Beach. The boat was very clean and in excellent technical condition. We really enjoyed the trip and would definitely recommend it!

Excellent experience with Jean Baptiste! He was very punctual, friendly, professional and always easy to reach throughout the whole organisation. Everything was perfectly arranged. Our clients were very happy with the yacht, the service and the entire trip, and they had a wonderful time at sea. Thank you again, Jean Baptiste! We would be very happy to work with you again in the future.

We had a fantastic time. Our two kids did wake boarding and tubeing for the whole trip (almost). David instructed us very well and together with the fantastic scenery, we very much enjoyed the sunny afternoon on the water.

Thoroughly enjoyed our day out on Maximes boat. We were concerned that a full day would be too much... not at all, we had a ball! The boat was spotless and service from Maxime was good.

The Digoin / Roanne Canal is a well hidden secret. Very few other boats. Amazingly friendly and helpful lock keepers, and excellent halt nautiques to stop at....for water, electric and spotless toilets. I was often, the only boat there.

Boat rental – France

France offers one of the largest river networks in Europe, making it an ideal destination for a memorable experience on the water. With thousands of navigable waterways spanning different regions, you can discover charming villages and stunning beauty at your own pace through self-drive boat rental in France or boat charter with a captain option.

Regions to explore on your boating vacation

France boating vacations provide numerous options for sailing enthusiasts. The Canal du Midi, with its rich history and scenic canal banks, is one of the most sought-after destinations for boaters. This UNESCO World Heritage site lets you cruise through the south of France while enjoying maximum comfort aboard your chosen houseboat.

The French waterways also lead to regions like Burgundy, where you can sail past vineyards and explore picturesque medieval towns. For those in search of luxury, Saint Tropez and the French Riviera offer the perfect backdrop for coastal sailing. Each of these regions offers unique scenery and cultural experiences, making them perfect for a week-long cruise during the sailing season.

Canal boat holidays in France

A canal boat holiday is one of the most authentic and immersive ways to experience the charm of France. Canal boats are specially designed for navigating the narrow French canals and provide all the amenities needed for maximum comfort while cruising. From the moment you board your canal boat, you'll appreciate the freedom to stop wherever interests you along the largest river network.

The beauty of canal boat holidays lies in their accessibility, even without previous experience, you can learn to handle these self-driving boats with a brief orientation.

As you cruise through various regions, you'll have the chance to moor at canal banks, visit local markets, and truly immerse yourself in authentic French culture, away from the typical tourist crowds.

Choosing the best boat rental in France

Selecting the ideal boat depends on your group size, budget, and cruising preferences for your boat. A huge range of options is available to suit various needs:

Houseboat rental offers spacious living quarters perfect for family trips. Canal boats come in various sizes, accommodating small couples' getaways or larger group adventures. For those seeking more luxury, high-end river cruises and luxury yachts are available in coastal areas.

The best boats feature user-friendly controls and sufficient cabin space to ensure maximum comfort throughout your journey. When you rent a boat in France, consider how much time you'll spend on board and choose accordingly for the best price and experience.

Pricing and details of boat rentals in France

Rental in France varies depending on boat type, season, and location. High season (June through August) typically commands premium rates, while spring and fall offer more affordable options with fewer crowds. Most boat bases require a security deposit, and prices generally include insurance and basic orientation.

France boating holidays become more economical when traveling with a group, as most boats accommodate multiple passengers. A seven-day cruise is standard, though shorter options exist for those wanting to explore France without committing to an extended trip.

Boat license and requirements in France

For most recreational boat rental France options, no boating license is required for boats under certain horsepower limits. However, larger or faster boats may require proof of competency or a boat license. Before you sail, boat rental providers will offer instruction on handling your boat safely and navigating locks.

Planning your trip to France

When planning your boating adventure, consider the sailing season, which typically runs from April through October. Booking your perfect boat early guarantees availability.

France continues to enchant visitors with its extensive canals and rivers, offering a unique perspective on this beautiful country. Whether it's your first cruise or you're an experienced captain, the French waterways promise discovery and relaxation as you navigate at your own pace through one of Europe's most captivating destinations.
