We stopped for lunch at Thirasia which we really enjoyed. I loved snorkeling at White Beach where the fish were so interested in me, that more and more of them started to follow me around. It was really interesting to see Nea Kameni up close, as it's like a prehistoric world.

Had a great half day charter with Costas in Santorini. Boat was well stocked (towels, snorkel gear, water, wine, etc) and Costas gave us an informative tour of the caldera and its geological history...stopped at several spots to snorkel/swim and other points of interest. Important to us was the convenience factor: Costas brought his bought to the pier where the cruise ship tenders disembark and we did not have to deal with riding the cable car up to Fira, and then getting a taxi to a boat rental place. Costas was a great host, communicated well before the charter, and was engaging with local history and knowledge. Strongly recommend.

Everything went perfectly, a private two days, sailing and discovering beautiful bays, with an experience sailor. She understood our group needs, took us in away from crowded Santorini bays, using all the time at disposal. Full of initiatives and good service including fishing and cooking fresh fishes. This is her boat, it makes a lot of difference in her dedication to ensure you enjoy at the maximum.

Cannot suggest this charter anymore ! Absolutely incredible day spent on the water. Husband and wife team and made my partner and I feel so welcome and enjoyable. She cooked on board and was respectful of my dietary restrictions and some of the best food I’ve ever had in Greece ! Don’t hesitate to book with them - you will not be disappointed.

We had an excellent day out on the boat. Nikos explained everything in detail and gave us all the information we needed to head out for the day. The boat was clean and in great condition and a nice touch with some drinks and a snack. Highly recommend booking! Thanks for such a great experience.

Boat rental in Santorini

Charter a boat in Santorini and plan an itinerary to sail to the village of Oia. There is nothing more beautiful than seeing the blue domes of the houses in this village. You can also enjoy the most beautiful sunsets in the area, according to several sailors. Enjoy this experience in the company of your friends and don't forget to take pictures.

Charter a catamaran or yacht and visit the hidden corners of the area, like the cliffs created by volcanic activity in the past and the black sandy beaches. Take the opportunity to climb up to Fira and contemplate the beauty of the view from above. Stroll through its streets full of handicrafts and have lunch on one of its terraces.

Santorini is one of the most popular destinations in Greece to rent a boat and explore. The beautiful scenery paired with perfectly blue water is a must-see if you plan on visiting the region. As in most of Greece, Santorini keeps the uniformed look with beautiful whitewashed buildings and endless cliffs to explore by boat. You will see it's instant charm as soon as you arrive and there is no better way to see it then by hiring a boat and exploring it from all angles.

When to sail in Santorini?

Planning a vacation to the Cyclades corresponds with the sailing season of Greece. Depending on the time of the year you arrive, the number of tourists will fluctuate greatly. In terms of sailing, the season typically runs from May to late October. When renting a boat in the Cyclades, you can expect the highest influx in the month of July and August, but keep in mind that for sailing, the best months can be June and September. During these two months, the tourist count will be much lower and the winds will be much better. If you're taking a motorboat out, then you'll have more freedom in June and you'll have no problem with your water sport activities.

How much does is to cost to rent a boat in Santorini?

The rates of renting a boat in Santorini will vary depending on the season. As mentioned, renting a boat during July and August will be a bit different than the rest of the year. For yacht charters, you can expect to pay on average around 475€ per day for a catamaran and 350€ for sailboats. If you wish to rent a motorboat, the prices will have a much wider range. For smaller boats, the price can start as low as 150€ and up to the thousands for luxury yachts. For motorboats, the best is to define your project (fishing, wakeboarding, etc) and filter it by the activity to find the best boat and price that suits you.

Boat availability in the Cyclades

Since Greece is one of the most desired vacation spots in the world, it is highly recommended to book well in advance. For yacht charters during high season, it is best to start searching in November or December the year before. By April, more than 50% of the fleet is already booked so be sure to look for your catamaran or sailboat as early as possible. For motorboats, you have a bigger window, but we would suggest the same.

Do I need a licence to rent a boat in Santorini?

If you are chartering a yacht in Santorini, you will need to present your license as well as your previous experience. You can fill out a nautical CV which describes your past experience in regards to what boats you have captained and what waters you sailed. If you plan on renting a motorboat, you will need a license to rent a boat above 30hp. If the boat is less, you can rent without a license, but some previous experience will be required.

If you don't have a license or don't feel comfortable being on your own, you can rent any type of boat with captain. Yacht charters will have the service available while motorboats will have the option as well. This is also perfect if you want to enjoy full relaxation and let the captain guide you through the Cyclades with his expertise of the region.

Practical information:

When getting to Santorini, the best way to arrive to your destination is by Athens or you can choose to take a ferry from a few other Greek islands. The last thing we would suggest is to visit the famous volcano, which is one of the most popular destinations on the island. If you're looking for a party island, then the best option is to set sail for Mykonos. If Mykonos is not your speed, then we highly suggest Naxos. Naxos has the perfect mix of everything you need including the culture, food, and nightife. Take your motorboat to Paros and see everything it has to offer.

Boat rentals are popular in Greece, so we suggest that you start your search and book as early as possible. Only this way you can be sure that you will find the right boat for you and your friends.
