The rental of the Orsalia, provided in Preveza, Greece by Kekeres Yachts, went without any problems, the condition of the boat and wear and tear were in line with its age. The equipment was handed over in good order, clean and in sufficient quantity. On the last day (Friday, October 10, 2025) the worn cable of the rear platform control broke. The base manager refused to release the deposit because we allegedly caused the damage through our use. The photos taken by Mr. Zacharias show that the damage to the pulley most likely occurred earlier. The pulley is under cover and the damage was not visible. In our opinion, this is normal operational wear and tear and there is no reason to withhold the deposit or to negotiate with the insurance company.

Orsalia has quite a few signs of wear and tear that require an overhaul (refrigerator door, large stain on the wooden floor in the saloon, two jammed doors and several jammed cupboard doors, all the shelves in the dinghy broken, etc.). However, none of this detracted from her sailing performance or enjoyment until the anchor popped out of the mast while being hoisted, and subsequently the entire chain and anchor came flying off. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the chain was apparently not sufficiently secured, or the securing device was so brittle that the chain broke just from the vertical drop. In my opinion, a clear maintenance issue. As a result, we had to go without an anchor for the last three days/nights. No fun in Greek waters. I am very dissatisfied with the fact that the crew was blamed for the loss and that the deposit should be charged accordingly.
In griechischen Gewässern kein Spass.
